Why is my tone always sharp?

by choochienhui
(ipoh)

Most of the notes I blow are sharp and out of tune. Why will it be like this? Can you please explain? And I can heard my wind sound.

Hi, and thanks for writing.

You might be playing sharp if your embouchure is too tight. It is important to keep the muscles of the mouth relaxed and not pull back on the corners of your mouth.

Check out the two pictures on this page that illustrate a tight embouchure and a relaxed one.

Also, blow with a strong, steady airstream.

Finally, I suggest practicing with a digital tuner. Use long tones and watch the tuner, keeping the indicator on the mark for proper intonation.

It's natural to hear some breath sound because you are so close to the air production source.

Keep practicing and your intonation will improve!
