Setting goals

Setting goalsSetting goals is a great way to achieve your personal performance goals as a flutist.

First, decide what you want to do with your flute playing. Whatever it is, it's okay!

You don't have to work toward being the greatest flutist in the history of the world. If you want to sit in your living room and play along with accompaniment CDs, great!

Maybe you want to be part of an ensemble or a local orchestra. That's a cool goal, too. Personal goal setting is what you want it to be. Just make a decision.

Perhaps you want to give recitals. Setting performance goals is a great way to learn flute repertoire.

  • Decide which pieces you want to program on your recital and how long it will take to learn them.
  • Next, determine the performance venue and make those arrangements.

By the way, a performance in your living room is just fine. A church, school auditorium, or coffee shop is good, too.

Setting and achieving goals is beneficial for anyone who wants to be sure they actually follow through with their dreams. It's easy to become overwhelmed with life and day-to-day drudgery. Goal setting keeps the dream alive!
