Music Minus One
A Great Learning Tool!
Music Minus One was something I discovered in high school in the 1970s, although the company has been in existence since the 1950s. At that time, the recordings were produced in LP vinyl form.
You not only get the recording (now in CD format), but you also get the sheet music. Really a great deal. Packages are offered for nearly every instrument and voice, and in a wide variety of musical styles, from folk to Broadway shows to classical. Tracks are included for tuning, establishing tempo, complete performance, and solo line removed. Performance suggestions are included from the recording artist as well. Your practice routine can be built around these great CDs. 1) Listen to the complete performance. 2) Read the performance suggestions. 3) Practice with the accompaniment. You can even use the accompaniment tracks for performance or gigs, such as outdoor weddings. Licensing for using the accompaniment tracks to make your own recordings is available, too. You can purchase products in music stores or on-line at the company's web site. Time with an accompanist is hard to come by and expensive, too! Take advantage of recorded accompaniments--they help not only for learning notes, but for intonation and rhythmic stability, too.
Check out this fun CD, "A New Tune A Day For Flute." What a great way to have fun practicing the flute!
