I'd been playing this piece for a long time. But then stopped playing the flute (and took up guitar). Then years later I was asked to play for a friend's wedding and so I opened up the flute case again after 10 years and when I played the Andante in C I remembered how much I loved it. I played for her wedding day and straight after I signed up with a teacher and I'm back in business.
Playing the solo was so great because it was not a "concert," but quite an informal setting and I didn't feel the pressure, and played the piece up to my abilities. Also, the setting was a large Estate house in Ireland set in acres of parkland and ceilings of 20 feet and tiled/stone floors so the sound was really amazing.
Best flute playing day of my life easily :)
Hi, John.
Thanks for sharing that wonderful story! The Mozart Andante is a lovely piece, and especially so for a wedding. What a beautiful setting that would have been. Do you have a picture of it? I'd love to see it!
Thanks for your kind comments! I'm glad this site helps you learn to play the flute.

Beginner's Flute Questions by: Julie from MN
Hi, Kathy.
I have other music experience such that I read music, but I am just starting to learn flute. There are a few things I was wondering if you could comment on.
First, how to develop an embouchure. I'm playing with how to place my mouth. It seems that if I can get the second octave coming in nicely, then I can't blow the first octave well, and vice versa. How can one develop both and then adjust between them?
Second, I put the head joint on so that the embouchure plate is in line with the first key, but trying to balance the flute at the knuckle of the first left finger seems to leave the flute wanting to roll inward toward me, especially around C and D of the second octave. What can I do with that?
Third, what's the best way to develop breath support? I am a piano player and percussionist and quit singing a few years ago and now I have no breath support.
Finally, just a comment. This is a wonderful thing you do on the internet. Keep going!
