Mary Iles

I am a beginner flute player (now 50 years old) in terms of reading the music, but I really have been playing by ear since my teens - just fiddling around picking out tunes, etc. I have a teacher, but he is not pushing me and I am am getting discouraged he does not lead me. I am playing on my own and now want some advice about a good tape recorder. I am not able to hear the recording on my tiny recorder.
Any suggestions.
Thanks,

That's great!

Hi, Mary! I think it's wonderful that you are learning to play the flute! It's fun to play by ear. Have you considered buying some flute books that include a CD accompaniment? Those are so much fun to play along with. You can get Christmas books for the holiday season and flute solo collections--there are so many books available now. Learning to play these pieces will challenge you and push you to a higher level of playing. As far as a new CD player, I would let your wallet be your guide. It's great if the CD player has a remote control so you can operate it from where you are playing. Have you talked to your teacher about challenging you more? If you have and you still aren't getting anywhere with him, I would seriously consider looking for a new teacher. You need to have fun playing and if you feel discouraged, something needs to change. Keep up the good work and keep playing!
