Low notes and middle notes on flute

Question: I looked at the flute fingering chart and the low A and middle A are the same, as well as other notes. To make a different pitch, are you supposed to blow differently?

Answer: Yes, you are.

For lower notes, aim your air toward the ground. You will feel like you are blowing down into the embouchure hole.

For higher notes, aim your air higher, toward the ceiling.

You may hear someone say you should push your jaw forward or backward. Aiming your airstream up or down will accomplish that.

The higher notes will take a bit more force, or a faster airstream.
