Low C and C-sharp

by Jackie
(Cheshire)

Question: I have been learning the flute since last June, with a lesson every fortnight. However, no matter how much I seem to practice, I can't get the low C and C sharp. Any tips would be welcome. Thanks.

Answer: These notes can be difficult, especially for beginners. Try these tips...

1) Relax your embouchure. These low notes just won't speak if your lips are stretched and tight.

2) Imagine your jaw falling onto the floor and pretend you have a golf ball in your mouth. The point is to open the oral cavity so the air can flow.

3) Try directing your air stream into the embouchure hole a bit.

Good luck!
