Ibert Piece
Ibert Piece is an unaccompanied solo that is a beautiful addition to the flute repertoire. This contemporary French flute solo by Jacques Ibert is a great choice when a short piece is needed to round out a recital program, for an audition, or any time a brief piece is needed. Jacques François Antoine Ibert, August, 15 1890 – February 5, 1962, wrote just a few compositions for flute - a wonderful concerto and a couple of great woodwind quintets - yet they are important works in the flute repertoire. His contemporary French musical style is perfect for the emerging French style of flute playing that came about in the first half of the 20th century. Ibert's music is tonal, yet not too familiar; challenging from a technical standpoint, but not for its own sake; sturdy, yet always romantic. Light and witty - typically French, and typically Ibert. "Pièce pour Flute seule" gives the flutist slow passages to display beautiful tone and fast passages to show technique. Expressive and emotional playing is extremely important.
