High notes

by Georgia
(Pa)

From my high G sharp to my high C's don't sound pretty. All my other notes, however do. What are some tips you can help me with so my high notes can sound better?

Hi, Georgia.

That's a very common question. Here are a few things you can do...

1) Use plenty of air. Take big breaths and fill out your diaphragm.

2) Use a fast air stream. Pretend you can measure the speed of your air and currently it is moving at 5 miles per hour. Try to make that air move at 100 miles per hour.

3) Relax your embouchure. Think of your lower jaw falling onto the floor as you play high notes.

4) Lastly, don't be afraid of high notes! Be confident that these notes will soar and sing, and be beautiful!

Running out of air...

But how do you play a high note when you are running up a scale and most of your air has been used for the other notes?
