Earth for Flute and Piano
by Takatsugu Muramatsu
Next in our flute repertoire class is Earth for Flute and Piano by Takatsugu Muramatsu, a gorgeous lyrical piece that seems to soar far above the ground.
The lyricism alternates with delightful technical witticisms.
There isn't a lot of information about the composer. Takatsugu Muramatsu, born in 1978, is a Japanese film composer. He is the composer of "Libera's Far Away" and "You were There."
Earth opens with a flute soliloquy, a simple walking on the earth. Then the piano takes a turn and the flute joins with a simple melody. Reminds me of Copland. The theme is repeated an octave higher, soaring musically.
The next section is a detached technical passage in contrast to the previous lyricism.
The piece climaxes midway through with brilliant piano chords that die away. The flute has another soliloquy passage like the beginning.
Another brilliant peak is reached, then a calm and peaceful ending finishes the piece.
Overall, the forum is quite classical despite the modern, soaring style.
I really love this piece! How about you?
What are your thoughts about this piece?
Do you like this piece? Maybe you don't! Tell me what you think about it either way. You don't have to be able to play the piece to give your opinion. You just have to love playing the flute!
