Flute Practice is Vital!

Flute practice is vital to your progress as a flutist. This only makes sense!

The key to consistent advancement is consistent practice. Keep these guidelines in mind...

  • Think long term. What you do today will show up in your playing a month or more from now.
  • Don't allow yourself to be upset or discouraged over imperfections in your playing--you'll improve over time!
  • Make time for fun in your flute practice. Play something you enjoy, like a Disney tune!

Your flute practice should be something you look forward to doing. If it isn't, ask yourself why. Are you in pain?

Bored?

Discouraged?

Frightened?

Talk to your flute teacher for his or her perspective.

Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare? Musicians are definitely the tortoise. Steady, consistent practice wins out.

A great practice partner is a CD or Music Minus One recording. CDs are never-tiring accompanists that help with learning notes, matching intonation and rhythm, and learning when to enter. Most widely-available flute music can be purchased with a practice CD for just a few dollars more. It's a wise investment!
