Flute or piano - Which is easier to learn?

by Tiara Bard
(Warfordsburg, PA)

What would be easier to learn, the flute or the piano?

Hi, Tiara.

Each one is easy in some ways and hard in some ways. If you want to play very well, you'll have to work hard at both of them.

It's easy to get a sound out of the piano; all you have to do is press a key. With the flute, however, you have to form a proper embouchure and hold the flute correctly and use the proper breath support.

Now I'm not saying the piano is easy by any means!

However, if you can just start one, I would start on piano. It's easier to learn how to read music when you're playing the piano. Later on you can learn to play the flute and you already know how to read music.

Good luck!

Kathy
