First flute solo

What was your first flute solo? Your very first solo is always special. Whether it was a simple piece from a collection or an easy arrangement of a well-known orchestral melody, it stays with you forever.

My first solo was an arrangement of the "Dance of the Reed Pipes" from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet. I just loved it! Even now when I hear that piece played, I think of playing it back in the seventh grade.

Another early flute solo for me was the first movement of the Mozart D Major Flute Concerto. I listened to a recording of it I brought home from school over and over. I was (and still am) absolutely in love with that piece!

Following that, I played a piece called "The Swiss Shepherd" and I love it to this day.

Spirit Dance From "Orpheus"  My first flute solo was Spirit Dance From "Orpheus." I played it in the 7th grade. It was really hard! I did get a "I" rating on it at solo contest, though....
