Dutilleux flute sonatine

The Dutilleux flute sonatine (sonatina) is a beautiful flute solo from the first half of the 20th century.

Henri Dutilleux (January 22, 1916 in Angers, France) was heavily influenced by his French Impressionistic predecessors, Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, yet he has a style all his own, and decidedly contemporary, more atonal than tonal.

The Sonatine is a relatively early work, written during World War II while he was worked first as a medical orderly, then returned to Paris to pick up his musical endeavors.

I performed this on a recital as an adult. Lyrical and technical, it was so much fun to play. I wish I had learned it years earlier!
