Brighton Beach

by Kelly A
(Sycamore, Il, USA)

I was in 6th grade and had already been playing the flute for about four years. Our school district put me in with the older kids and we went into competition together. I had never competed before. I was sooo nervous. We did great and I received a trophy for the best solo in the whole competition. It was the most memorable moment of my life. 20 years later, I am teaching music for the YMCA and love it!! I do still play Brighton Beach all the time and my students love it because it has a 2nd flute part to it and we can play together..

That's great!

It's amazing how our first experiences stick with us over the years! Brighton Beach is a great solo. Thank you for sharing that with us!
