Baroque flute music

Baroque flute music was the era that the flute came into its own.

The Baroque era of classical Western European music extends from about 1600 to 1750, and encompasses several regional styles--French, Italian, and German--that are well represented in the flute repertoire.

The flute was far from the instrument we play today. It was still constructed of wood and the key mechanism was quite primitive. Many of the holes were simply covered by the fingers without any metalwork at all.
