Bach flute sonatas

Bach flute sonatas are a highlight of the Baroque era. While not technically difficult, it's take a masterful flutist to interpret them well.

In addition, the long phrases pose a challenge from a breathing standpoint.

Johann Sebastian's son, Carl Phillip Emmanuel, also composed many delightful pieces for the flute, including sonatas and a solo piece in A minor.

Many flutists love to play the works of Bach in an authentic style, on wooden flutes.

Another important part of performing Bach's flute music is the correct interpretation of ornamentation. This is a huge study in and of itself. Trills commonly start on the note above the printed one and on the beat.
