Adult learner

by Michelle
(Ohio)

Question: I recently acquired a flute and have always wanted to play. I am 32 years old and never played before and was wondering if you know of anyone who has taken this up as an adult and how they are doing.

Answer: Sure, many adults are successful with learning to play a musical instrument. I have taught adult students and they do very well.

The key is not their age, but dedication to practicing. Any new skill has to be developed by repeated action.

The great thing is that learning how to play the flute is fun!

I recommend getting a lesson book with a CD such as the one I recommend on my flute lessons page...

After you have the basics of playing the flute down, get a book with some fun songs, such as Disney or Broadway show tunes. Here are some good ones...

Disney

Pirates of the Caribbean

You CAN play the flute! Stick with it and you'll do great!
