The 4th octave D flute fingering is a bit tricky, but so are all of the fingerings in the fourth octave.
Left hand: Thumb (not on the B-flat key) and finger 3 (ring finger) and G-sharp key
Right hand: Fingers 1 and 2, and the low C keys
A lot of air is required for this note to speak. Work up to it starting with the third octave A, going by half steps, slowly.
A to A-sharp
A-sharp to B
B to C
C to C-sharp
C-sharp to D
Do you feel lightheaded? If so, you're probably doing it correctly.
Keep the embouchure relaxed. The air stream should be fast.
If you're having trouble with it, work up to it. Start with a high note that you can play well, such as A. Then start on the A and play chromatically up to the D.
